December 1, 2011 - December 4, 2011

New this year, JGI is introducing a December 2011 trip to the Everglades National Park where participants will discover the similarities of ecosystems across continents and the geological processes that shaped them. Continental drift and sea level fluctuations may have left the Americas and Africa apart but they share similar families of ancient animal and plants of the modern Everglades ecosystems. Tropical and temperate plant species provide food and shelter to one of the world’s most biologically diverse landscapes. And, of course we hope to see plenty of American Alligators. These creatures were placed on the Endangered Species List in 1976 but have since rebounded thanks to conservation efforts not unlike what JGI does to help wild chimpanzees in Africa.
